MOUNT VERNON — WNZR 90.9 FM, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, is preparing for Lifeline 2016. This annual fundraising effort is an opportunity for listeners to pledge their support to WNZR.
This year’s goal is $62,000, and the theme is “Build Your Kingdom Here,” based on the song from Rend Collective. The theme verses for Lifeline 2016 are Luke 17:20-21. Over these last few months, the WNZR staff has been moved and challenged by this song and these verses. They are a reminder that the kingdom of God starts in the heart.
“The lyrics of the song “Build Your Kingdom Here” are a powerful reminder that any discussion of building God’s kingdom starts with us, individually, in our hearts,” said Marcy Rinehart, WNZR Station Manager and co-host of The Morning Thing.
“We are committed as a staff to make a renewed decision to allow God to take His rightful place on the throne of our hearts. It is only by making this intentional decision that we can help extend His love to others, truly building His kingdom one person at a time.”
Lifeline 2016 will start on Wednesday, March 30 and run through Saturday, April 2 with a wrap-up day on Monday, April 4.
“Our desire for WNZR’s broadcast ministry is to extend a vision that began 29 years ago,” said Joe Rinehart, MVNU’s Director of Broadcasting and co-host of WNZR’s Afternoon Drive.
“We hope to broadcast an uplifting message that encourages listeners and their families on a daily basis. Your gift allows us to continue that effort. Your partnership is also an investment in our students to develop their communication skills while discovering passion and purpose in their lives.”
“Being a staff member at WNZR has had a big impact on my life,” said Jenna Potts, a junior journalism and media production major from Springfield, Ohio.
“I have been able to use concepts learned in the classroom and apply them to a real radio station working actively in the community. I have been blessed to work at local events and get to know Knox County and our listeners. The experience I’ve had with WNZR is invaluable to my future.”
Wesley Boston, senior video/radio broadcasting major from Orrville, Ohio, said ““Build Your Kingdom Here” is a request to be part of the activity of God’s grace and love. For me, it’s a desire to accept that request and to be part of what He’s doing. I want to embrace the mission of God’s kingdom by having it start in my heart.”
Wednesday, March 4, is WNZR’s annual Day of Prayer and Praise. From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., the staff will focus on how God has provided for WNZR over the past 29 years. Listeners are encouraged to call the station throughout the day to share personal testimonies, prayer requests and praise reports.
